First Post

Setting up this blog is super simple and it allows me to give information in a convenient way to all who are interested. We recently had our MAEA Summer meeting and the following is the report that I gave to the council.

The website and Artbytes continue to be used by our organization and remain important electronic tools. Kim Foster had taken over Artbytes and is doing a great job. Just wish I had thought of having her sooner!! If you have Artbytes questions or need something posted, she is the person to contact.. Her email address is kfoster01@charter.net . Go Kim!!

At this time, registration forms and proposal forms  for both Spring and Fall conferences, nomination forms for MAEA Art awards and Youth Art Month \packets are all online. We have a page just for teacher websites and if you would like your website linked, please send the link and request to akynion@sbcglobal.net
We also have quick links to many of the vendor websites and a separate page for Art Advocacy links.\
In November, our domain name is up for renewal. The domain name is maea.net and we basically pay “rent” to use that name to point to our website. ( If we didn’t “rent” the domain name, the address for the website would be complicated and long and not easy to remember.)  I have contacted Network Solutions, the service manager for our domain name, and received a competitive price of approx. $79 for 9 years.  Nine years is the maximum time we can subscribe for and in nine years, the internet will have changed in many ways and we can change our options. If we subscribe on an annual basis the cost is considerably higher (approx. $25 per year) and if we let it lapse, we could lose the name and our website would be inaccessible. The last time we subscribed for five years (have I been doing this longer than that!!) and haven’t needed to make any changes.  As web mistress, I recommend that we subscribe for the nine years.
ArtBytes also has several features that you may want to know about. You can search the ArtBytes messages for topics and past postings at any time. With over 2700 messages since we started, you may find some valuable info by doing a simple search. You can search by message number, but most will find that a word search will be more beneficial. For example, type in the letters GLE and you will come up with 72 messages concerning GLE’s. The web address for ArtBytes is http://groups.yahoo.com/group/MAEAArtBytes/  click on Messages to begin your search. You can click on a person’s name under Members and/or search for a member. You can also change your own personal settings. If you are getting too many messages from ArtBytes, you can choose to receive the messages as a Daily Digest, instead of getting each one individually. You can do that on the member’s page after you log in. If you are having trouble logging in, you will need to contact Yahoo. However, we can go in manually and change settings on Artbytes for you.
If you have questions, suggestions or other technology issues that you would like addressed, please contact me at akynion@sbcglobal.net .
